I like having property taxes in escrow even though it isn’t the optimal way to save money (they get the interest, not us) because it’s less hassle for us, and in the years when we come up short the mortgage company pays the difference and gives us time ….. There are so many hidden costs in home ownership that its easy to focus on the mortgage and hard to calculate the unknown expenses of maintenance/ repair .
